E-MAIL
(2 session course)
Cost is $20 for KCnet Members, $25 for non-members
After you've learned to turn on the computer and get on the Internet, you want to send and receive e-mail. This course teaches the beginner to send and receive e-mail. You will then advance to using an address book, organizing your e-mail and mail groups, and filtering incoming e-mail.
Also, participants will learn how to customize e-mail with stationery and backgrounds, using different fonts and colors. You will also attach your own special signature to e-mail messages. This is a fun class which will show you how to personalize your e-mail and impress your friends. Come and enjoy! There is always time for questions and general exploration. Call 893-8111 to register.
Beginner Windows
(4 session course)
Cost is $40 for KCnet Members, $45 for non-members.
Topics include an introduction to all parts of the computer,
learning about the desktop, mouse features and operation,
and features and operation of the keyboard. Also creating
shortcut icons, using recycle bin, wallpaper and screen savers,
toolbars and taskbars, drag and drop, using window features
(minimize, maximize, resize, etc), control panel, accessing
the different drives, and more. There is always time for questions
and general exploration.
Intermediate Windows (4 session course)
Topics include organization of windows programs, creating
and organizing folders, file extensions, saving files from
Internet, folder and file views, formatting floppy disks,
installing programs, download programs from Internet, HTML
email, uninstall vs delete, scandisk and defrag, email attachments,
and more. There is always time for questions and general exploration.
Advanced Windows (4 session course)
Topics include a review of the management of folders and files,
an introduction to photo manipulation, introduction to webpage
creation, using the sound recorder, attaching recordings to
emails, introduction to eyeball cams and Internet transmission,
and an introduction to burning your own CDs. There is always
time for questions and general exploration.
Camera Club (on-going, start anytime)
The KCnet Community Room at 18 E. Main Street is the gathering place for members of the KCnet Camera Club. If you have a camera and a good handle on how to point and click, visit a club meeting on the third Monday of each month at 6 PM. If you aren't a member, and would like to be, please contact Bill Raco wraco@kcnet.org. If you have a camera and don't know how to use it, ask Bill for the date of the next "novices meeting."
eBay University (2 session course)
Do you want to sell some of those good items you have around
the house that you don’t want anymore? Are you looking
for a hard to find item? Keystone Community Network has scheduled
a new course to teach you how to use that famous selling and
buying tool, eBay. eBay is an online market place where any
registered user of eBay can buy or sell items online with
millions of other registered users. Topics in this course
include registering for an account, setting up financial information,
online safety tips, buying items, selling items, and more.
Macintosh Class (1 session course)
Do you want to learn more about your Macintosh computer? If
so then you will want to take this course. Clair Falls is
the instructor and he will answer questions, and demonstrate
new things that Macintosh has introduced.
Digital Photo Editing
(4 session course)
Cost is $45 for 8 hours of learning fun.
Sessions show how to repair old photos, adjust the
brightness and contrast, change backgrounds, combine two or
more photos together, and much more. You'll learn to compose and edit your photos. The editing program to be used is affordable, Paintshop Pro. Some knowledge
of how to use a computer is required for this course.
Photography and Digital Photo Editing Workshop
(5 session course)
Cost is $75 for 15 hours of learning fun.
First session is a lesson on how to use your digital camera and accessories. You will understand the manual and its terminology. Bring your coat, because you'll go outside to take pictures with your camera. There's a photo assignment to accomplish before the next lesson.
Following sessions show how to repair old photos, adjust the
brightness and contrast, change backgrounds, combine two or
more photos together, and much more. You'll hear from local photo journalists and learn about famous photographers.
At the beginning of each workshop, you will review the photo assignment from the week before. You'll learn to compose and edit your photos. You will print photos, mat and frame a photograph to take home.
The editing program to be used is affordable, Paintshop Pro. Some knowledge
of how to use a computer is required for this course.
Microsoft Word (4 session course)
Covers such topics as setting paper size, margins, columns
and tabs, formatting text, text alignment, bulleted and numbered
lists, inserting objects, using the spelling and grammar check,
creating an envelope and more. Some knowledge of how to use
a computer is required for this course.
Microsoft Excel (4 session course)
Covers the basics of spreadsheets. A spreadsheet is the primary
document used in Microsoft Excel. It consists of numerical
information that is organized into columns and rows. It can
be used to manage, analyze and present information such as
a database for your small organization or even a household
budget. Participants learn basic formula building and how
to create charts and graphs using data from the spreadsheets.
Some knowledge of how to use a computer is required for this
course.
Music Creation (4 session course)
Create simple music pieces and save them to your computer.
Create MIDI files, learn to change rhythm, correct misnotes,
and add/delete notes to pieces. Skills required for this course
are musical keyboard skills, basic computer understanding,
know how to play by ear. Basic home requirements include a
computer, music notation program, and a MIDI-friendly keyboard.
KCnet will provide a computer lab setting with computer, music
notation program to be used in class, keyboard and interface
for the course. The program used is "Play Music"
and is available for purchase after class.
Genealogy (4 session course)
This course is geared to the beginner family tree enthusiast,
but an advanced researcher will pick up tips and tricks to
enhance their searches and make their tree grow faster. Learn
how to use pedigree charts and family group sheets and how
to search various records. Also learn about research techniques
and demonstrate the use of three of the most popular programs
for creating a personal family tree, Generations, Family Tree
Maker, and Personal Ancestral File (PAF). Some knowledge of
how to use a computer is required for this course.
Advanced User Group (Ongoing)
This is a very advanced group. Sessions cover a lot of territory.
This is a free-flowing class. Mike Foust provides the leadership
for this group, with some help from guest speakers. Intermediate
computer skills are necessary.
Orientation to KCnet (1 session course)
This class is designed to introduce new members to KCnet,
the Internet, and email. This class is held the third Wednesday
of every month from 6-8 pm. If you can't make it on a Wednesday,
let us know and we can set up an individual orientation.
