1. United States Type Certificate # A00002NY. This is only a document but it is a certification from the FAA that the design meets all of the FAA regulations that apply to this aircraft.
2. Type Design data: The Type Design Data is a complete set of original drawings for the Model EL-1 Gavilan.
This is considered a “Paper” drawing system. Although approximately ˝ of the drawings are in electronic files, they are all plotted onto a transparent media and can be copied by blue-printing. There is an FAA back-up blue print file of every drawing.
The drafting method used is called a “ Design Drawing System” . Best described as several detailed parts shown on assembly drawings. As opposed to a “ Production Drawing System” where there is an individual drawing for every part.
3. Certification data: This data includes every original report that was submitted to the FAA for approval and to show compliance. This includes the Pilots Operating Handbook. ( Flight Manual ) . These reports are in excellent condition and have been stored in a warm and dry environment.
4. Static Test Articles: There is a complete set of conformity static test articles. Obviously some of these items are in poor condition due to the fact that they were tested to ultimate loading and may have deformed sightly. These parts are not airworthy but could be used for future testing.
5. Conformity Airplane: Although this airplane has not flown since 1998 and the engine was not preserved, it is was in flying condition after the last flight test. There is some hangar rash. Right aileron need slight repair. Right wing has minor dent and must be filled before flight. Seat belts are missing.
The entire airplane will require inspection for corrosion before flight. This includes the engine which may be subject to the Lycoming crank shaft Service Letter and AD. It will require a new battery, new tires, and it has been suggested that the windows be replaced including the windshield which is a flat sheet of Plexi-glass.
6. Technical Assistance: Many of the original designers and engineers are available as consultants and would be willing to assist the new owners.
